Current Affairs in CULTURE programme
The framework programme CULTURE supports transnational cooperation projects that involve cultural organisations from several European countries. It is open for all cultural activities, with the exception of cinema and audiovisual media.
The Culture Programme (2007-2013) follows and replaces Culture 2000 which was established for a period of seven years to the end of 2006.
The general objective of the programme is to enhance the cultural area common to Europeans through the development of cultural cooperation between the creators, cultural players and cultural institutions of the countries taking part in the programme, with a view to encouraging the emergence of European citizenship.
The specific objectives of the programme are:
- to promote the transnational mobility of people working in the cultural sector;
- to encourage the transnational circulation of works and cultural and artistic products;
- to encourage intercultural dialogue.
The programme budget for seven years is approximately 400 million euros.
The Centre for International Mobility CIMO functions as the Finnish Cultural Contact Point for Culture Programme. We disseminate information about the Culture Programme to Finnish cultural operators.
Cultural Contact Points operate in each country taking part in Culture programme. The countries participating in the programme are the European Union Member States, EU Candidate countries Croatia, Turkey and Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, EFTA/EEA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as well as Serbia and Montenegro (from 2010 onwards). Negotiations on the participation in the programme are in progress with other Western Balkan countries.
