First round of applications now open in Eritrea-specific HEI ICI programme

The new programme strengthens higher education in Eritrea by supporting cooperation projects between Finnish and Eritrean higher education institutions. The total amount of funding available in the first application round is around 2 million euros. The deadline for applications is 4 May 2015.

The Eritrea Specific Programme is funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland from the development cooperation appropriations.

The programme seeks to support higher education cooperation between Finland and Eritrea and strengthen the capacity of Eritrean higher education institutions. Finnish and Eritrean institutions of higher education will launch cooperation projects to enhance the administrative, field-specific, methodological and pedagogical capacity of the Eritrean partner institutions.

The Eritrea Specific HEI ICI programme is based on the existing development cooperation instruments in the higher education sector. The programme is modelled after the HEI ICI programme, which supports capacity-building projects between higher education institutions in Finland and developing countries. Complementary mobility components, intensive courses and other good practices have been adopted from the North–South–South programme.
