The Finnish parliament approved the law for the new National Board of Education

The merger of CIMO and the current National Board of Education is going forward: on Tuesday 21st June the parliament passed the required law. The new organisation will start operation from the beginning of 2017.

The new organisation will continue the work of CIMO and the National Board of Education. It will be responsible for providing specialist services within the remit of the Finnish Ministry of Education, including education from early childhood education and care to lifelong learning as well as international cooperation. The merger will also provide a natural opportunity to develop services according to clients’ needs.

International cooperation will be a significant part of the work of the new organisation. CIMO’s clients will receive the same services as before but the merger will enable making even better links nationally between international dimension and competence development.

The merger has been planned in cooperation between CIMO and the National Board of Education, with the intention to harness the strengths of both organisations in the new one.

The new organisation will be led by general director, a new position to start from 1 October 2016. To begin with, the position will be held within the Ministry of Education and Culture, to be transferred to the new organisation in the beginning of next year.
