Brief Description:

The goal of the project is to contribute to the quality of teacher training in higher education by strengthening the in-service training system in universities in the whole country and this way to promote the democratic, social, economic and sustainable development primarily in Peru, but also elsewhere in the Latin America. Special attention will be paid to the learning outcomes of children among the indigeneous people of the country.

The key action is training the teacher educators who, in turn, will apply the new practices in to the linguistic and cultural soil of Peru. During the project the trained university teachers carry out piloting in-service training programs to teachers working in schools and integrate the surrounding schools into the project. The project has two main objectives: A national model for teacher´s in-service training in the framework of lifelong learning, which responds to the requirements of quality assurance in higher education and national and cultural needs. The second objective is to create a system for a national network of universities, who offer in the future quality teacher´s in-service training and whose first priority is to develop schools by improving teacher´s skills and competencies in collaboration with each other and with local and national authorities.

Result Area(s):

  • Improved quality and relevance of higher education
  • Enhanced management, leadership and governance capacities in higher education institutions
  • Improved information management in teaching and learning

Key Results to be Achieved:

  1. A nationally systematic and legalized quality model for teacher´s in-service training in institutions of higher education in Peru. The model prepares the teacher trainers in higher education to respond effectively to the national qualitative and quantitative needs in education.
  2. A network of universities in Peru who provide teacher´s in-service training and carry out together their national task in educational development together with national policy makers. The project strengthens the network of higher education institutes both with each other and with schools.
