Tasks

Archival Processes - Assessing, sorting, and cataloging records, materials, and artifacts. Conduct research requests, and work with members of the public, especially on genealogy and historical topics.

Help maintain the Archive's website, databases, and social media.

Perform translation tasks for researchers and staff.

Cultural Activities - Participate in unique Finnish-American cultural events, including concerts, dances, demonstrations, lectures, and other regional traditions, as well as university planned activities at the Heritage Center and Archive.

Opportunities for public speaking and/or lectures on topics of personal and institutional interest.

Requirements The Finnish American Heritage Center Archive is looking for an intern candidate with the following background, interests, and abilities. This is a list of desired traits, not necessarily all required qualifications.
  • Bilingual in English and Finnish (Swedish also helpful)
  • Experience in Archival work, Museum Studies, or Library Science, or other history related field
  • Be able to complete both long-term projects and routine tasks with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of, or interest in Finnish/American relations, and the distinct Finnish-American culture
  • Experience in website design and management, as well as social media
  • Able to do written translation, both from Finnish to English and from English to Finnish
  • Desire to work with patrons, perform research requests, and assist as needed in other activities of the Finnish American Heritage Center. Some evening/weekend hours will be required for special events.
Salary EDUFI scholarship 1010 euros / month

Accommodation The employer will help in finding accommodation, the trainee will pay the fees.
