Brief Description:

Through carefully planned student and teacher mobility, intensive courses and dissemination events MECI project aims to:
a) explore notions of cultural identities through music;
b) increase awareness of African and Finnish music students and music teachers of the pedagogical possibilities and challenges in multicultural and global learning environments;
c) improve learning and teaching skills and methodologies of African and Finnish music and culture educators (including the classroom teachers), aiming for in-depth exchange of approaches and ideas in accordance with global university responsibilities;
d) boost cultural identities of music teachers in Africa and in Finland;
e) improve the overall quality of music teaching and cultural education in MECI countries, and
f) increase the cooperation between different actors and organizations in the fields of cultural education, music and music education in MECI countries.

Brief Description of the Intensive Course(s):

A ten-day intensive course in music education will be arranged in early March, 2015, in Potchefstroom (South Africa) hosted by the North-West University. All network universities can select up to 3 students and two teachers to take part in the course. The programme will include lectures and workshops in music, music education and choir conducting as well as visits to nearby schools.

Brief Description of Possible Dissemination Measures:

A 3-day dissemination event will be organized on 25 - 27 February in Botswana, hosted by the University of Botswana presenting the outcomes of MECI project. The target group of the presentations, workshops and information sessions will be students and staff of UB, arts & culture teachers of local schools, representatives of administrative offices of education.
