Student exchange

FIRST networks can organise reciprocal student exchanges.

Networks

  • select the exchange students
  • determine the level of grants to be paid
  • pay the grants.

Receiving institutions of higher education shall help incoming students with finding accommodation.

Students must be at least second-year degree students enrolled in a network institution of higher education. Both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students are eligible FIRST exchanges are open to students in all fields, except for Russian degree students of Finnish language and Finnish degree students of Russian language.

Mobility periods may also include practical training.

Student exchanges last for 3–12 months, and studies completed during the exchange will be recognised as part of a student’s degree. Students may undertake a FIRST exchange only once.

Teacher exchange

FIRST networks can organise reciprocal teacher exchanges.

Networks

  • select the exchange teachers
  • determine the level of grants to be paid
  • pay the grants.

Teachers must be members of a partner institution’s teaching staff. They must provide at least 5 hours of teaching during an exchange.

Accessibility grants

Accessibility grants support the participation in the FIRST programme of persons with special needs whose participation – for reasons of physical or mental health – calls for additional financial assistance.
