Aalto University

The Aalto University Language Centre organises an introductory Finnish MOOC 4 times a year.

Other Language Centre courses are available for non-Aalto students through Open University. In practice, nearly all of our language and communication courses include some open spots for Open University students.

Aalto University is involved in the Erasmus+ project with the European Centre for Refugee Integration in Higher Education (EUCRITE), starting in a concrete way in 2018.

University of Eastern Finland

MAMUEF is an education pilot project aimed at refugees and asylum seekers running in autumn 2017. MAMUEF is especially directed towards people with higher education studies or degree or the potential to study in a Finnish university. The pilot is a part of the UEF Social Sciences department PROMEQ / New Start Finland! project.

Lahti University of Applied Sciences

Training preparing immigrants for higher education, next in spring 2018

Lapland University of Applied Sciences

Lapland University of Applied Sciences offers information, advice and guidance services for people planning studies in a university of applied sciences and people looking to study in a university of applied sciences. In Open universities of applied sciences, everyone can take single study units (like language classes) or path studies towards a degree with no entry requirements. There are information, advice and guidance services for planning Open UAS studies and individual and group guidance for Open UAS students.

To support all degree students based on individual needs, the university of applied sciences provides curator services to support the progression of studies, arrangements related to accessibility, and student health services and a students’ minister. In addition, higher education sports services are available for all university of applied sciences students.

- Tie tutkintoon project ('Path to a degree') is developing the guidance model for immigrants doing Open UAS studies for a degree and offering information, advice and guidance services.

- The Step2Job project provides highly educated immigrants guidance and advice on the recognition of prior learning, Finnish language skills and Open higher education institution studies to complement previous skills.

The Shared city project applies an integration/adjusting game. In the game, you move on the board and solve problems related to recognition, information and actions. The game supports language learning, integrating in the local community and interaction skills.

University of Lapland

Guidance services for immigrants have been developed and provided in two projects:

The Step2Job project looks for complementing education and development activities for people with higher education degrees. The project also offers three courses of Finnish that make up a total of 10 credits. The goal of the courses is to accumulate professional vocabulary related to your own field of expertise.

Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK)

Through Open Studies, SAMK offers basic and complementary education in different fields, language studies (English and Finnish) and Finnish cultural education.
There are currently 6 Bachelor’s degrees and 4 Master's degrees available in English at SAMK.

Tampere University of Applied Sciences

Open university of applied sciences offers the 3-credit study unit Finnish language and writing for university of applied sciences studies.

Tampere University of Technology

Immigrants and refugees are eligible to participate in Open university courses for free (max. 20 credits / school year).

University of Tampere

For the University of Tampere, the Let’s work together network founded in the Faculty of Education operates in the following areas:
- Low-threshold activities to integrate asylum seekers and refugees in the academic community and provide meaningful activities.
- Offering courses in English in the University of Tampere
- Developing new and sustainable operating models to also serve immigrants and refugees that could be integrated into the curriculum.

Advice and guidance for questions related to immigrants’ higher education application, general guidance in matters related to education (language courses, vocational education etc.) The service is intended for all immigrants who need guidance and advice on reaching appropriate higher education paths. Advice is given by email and in individual appointments
