Interviews of the 19th CIMO Winter school participants on YouTube

Call for 23rd Winter School applications was closed on 1st of November.

23rd EDUFI (former CIMO) WINTER SCHOOL
“Limits of Reality and Beyond“

The Finnish National Agency for Education EDUFI invites applications from Russian and Ukrainian postgraduate students for participation in the 23rd Winter School organized during 4 - 9 March 2019 at Lammi Biological Station of the University of Helsinki.

The goal of the Winter School is to enhance the mobility of young researchers and postgraduate students between Finland and the participating countries and to increase the cooperation between the universities. Before applying for participation in the 23rd Winter School, the applicants are expected to contact at least one scientist/research group leader at Finnish universities to discuss a possible future project with them. Expression of interest by the Finnish host will be considered a major advantage during the selection process.

Those Winter School participants who will be invited to Finland after the Winter School by Finnish research teams will have an option for a scholarship from the EDUFI (former CIMO) Fellowship programme. The Winter School provides an opportunity for the invited participants to come to work or study in Finland for 3 to 12 months. In 2018, the monthly amount of scholarship was 1500 euros. The scholarship period should begin approx. within two years after the Winter School.

The 23rd EDUFI Winter School is multidisciplinary - not for a particular, narrow field of science, but rather for a scientific topic. This time, the school focuses on the human experience of reality and technical advancements that may push the limits of reality beyond the present scope of human senses.

Applications from fields such as mathematics, data science, information technology, communication and media sciences, social sciences, psychology, linguistics, biosciences, neuroscience, medicineand pharmacy are welcome.

The school tends to stimulate active participation and discussion. The untraditional working method has been specially developed for the Winter School and it aims at enhancing the strength of participants’ own personal expertise, problem-solving capabilities, scientific presentation skills and creative mind.

Tentative themes of the days:

  • Communication day (Development, learning and relearning of language)
  • Inverse day (Solution of mathematical inverse problems and their everyday applications)
  • Virtual day (Advances in constructing virtual reality and novel applications)
  • Crazy day (Perturbed human sense of reality in psychiatric diseases and its treatment)
